Healthcare facilities use a lot of linen. Bed Linen, surgical linen,
patient apparel, scrub wear, and gowns are just a few of the items that a
healthcare facility needs.
Since normal healthcare practices require frequent changes of linens, the
total weight and volume of dirty linens can become rather large, rather
quickly. A typical large hospital can generate over 25 tons of dirty
laundry each week.
Healthcare facilities are fortunate in that there are several benchmark
studies available that show typical usage amounts. These amount vary
greatly depending on the type of facility, such as whether it is an outpatient
clinic , or a complete surgical center. But no matter what the facility,
all the studies show that the initial linen cost is only a small part of the
total cost of your linen.
Not only do you have to purchase the linens to begin with, but you must
constantly purchase replacement linens. Healthcare procedures by their
very nature are hard on linen, resulting in cuts, tears, and stains. Add
in the cost and labor of processing, the wasted space of a laundry and storage
area, and normal loss rates, and the expenses continue to grow.
Why rent linen?
Linen is a necessary part of any healthcare operation. But should you
process your own, or rent ours? Here are some things to consider.
CONVENIENCE:
We deliver fresh, hygienically clean healthcare linen rental items on a regular
schedule that you can rely on (e.g., bed linen, towels, gowns, etc.).
QUALITY: We specify the best fabrics and construction for each
application — textiles that will perform well with repeated use. We then launder
them to the highest standards to maintain softness, comfort,
absorbance and barrier protection.
APPEARANCE: Quality purchasing and processing results in textiles that meet exacting
standards. Not only is the linen sparkling clean and well finished, but
whites are bright and sets of colored items are of the same hue.
CLEANLINESS: We process our linen to ensure it is non-allergenic and hygienically
clean. Our quality control procedures insure that they stay that way.
SAFETY: OSHA continues to set
increasingly complex and demanding standards for employee
protection. Every linen item is designed to perform its designated
function in a safe, effective manner, plus we ensure our operations follow all
applicable guidelines.
SAVINGS: You do not need to invest capital expenses on equipment or
merchandise. Your REAL linen costs can be carefully budgeted, closely monitored, and
expensed against operations. There are no financial "surprises" with
our services.
IMAGE: Image is critical, staff that has a consistent look
promotes a sense of professionalism and competence.

LAUNDRY PRODUCTION PAYROLL: Payroll costs for wages paid to hourly employees who handle linen, including
laundry production, soiled sort, washroom, flatwork, ironing, tumble dry
operation, etc.
MANAGEMENT PAYROLL: Employees who handle linen inspection; linen
control; janitorial services; machinery repairs and maintenance; and
internal linen distribution.
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: Includes payment of social security, workers compensation, holidays,
vacations, state unemployment, health insurance, union contributions, etc.
LAUNDRY CHEMICALS: All detergents, alkalis, bleach, sour, fabric softener, antibacterial agents,
starch, etc.
MAINTENANCE, REPAIR, AND PARTS COSTS: Includes all machine repair parts, lubricants, drive belts, iron pads and
covers, tools, boiler treatment and water softener salt.
UTILITIES: Gas, electricity, fuel oil and water account for a large part of expenses.
TAXES, LICENSES & PERMITS: Taxes, licenses and operating permits paid by the facility and allocated to
laundry operations.
EQUIPMENT COSTS: Equipment experiences wear every time it is operated. Replacement costs must
be considered.
INSURANCE / OTHER BUSINESS EXPENSES: Insurance, lease charges, safety expenses, uniforms, training, and other
expenses allocated to the laundry.
LOST OPPORTUNITY COSTS: Probably the single most overlooked
cost. The space occupied by your laundry and linen storage areas could be used
for a
revenue-producing facility, not a cost center.

Already own your own linen?
Many facilities already own their own linen. This significant
investment need not be wasted. We can arrange to purchase the linen from
you for use in your account.
Or if you wish, you can continue to purchase and own your own linen, and we
will process it for you. This is commonly referred to as a COG (Customer
Owned Goods) contract, and is common among large facilities who wish to take
advantage of certain rebates or purchasing contracts.
